This will stop any two legged or four legged vermin, including a bear.

  I just carry the G20. It's loaded with Underwood 200gr XTPs. Hollow point hunting loads. They will.work on anything in Michigan from people to black bears. We don't have brown or white bears.
 Out west I load it with the Underwood 200gr hardcast. 
  I do have a Colt Kodiak but I get faster follow up shots with the Glock and it's lighter. I've put a couple thoudand rounds through it so it's very familiar.  I also have a .45/70 in a scabbard on my saddle when on horseback.
